    Sir,

Now, the policy of the Unicode Consortium, in allotting code points for encoding alphabets of world languages is not “RATIONAL”.

The Unicode Consortium is allotting code points to ideographs, which are not atomic characters.

But, at the same time, the Unicode Consortium is refusing to allot code points for Vowel-Consonants of Indian Languages, saying they are not atomic characters.

For Tamil (for example) code points has been allotted by the Unicode Consortium for about 10%, only, of the Character Set, facilitating direct encoding, leaving rest 90% of Character Set, in lurch.

The Unicode Consortium, has, also, nullified the additional planes, created by IEEE, by introducing UTF-16, with surrogate pairs, resulting in the deletion of all the planes beyond 17th and making the planes up to to 17th unworkable, except the BMP, thereby, keeping only one plane as before.

The Unicode has not taken any effort for economic encoding memory, duly introducing UTF-10, gradually, replacing UTF-8.

Please see the following comment, in the site of wikipedia for UTF-16.

“Because the most commonly used characters are all in the BMP, handling of surrogate pairs is often not thoroughly tested. This leads to persistent bugs and potential security holes, even in popular and well-reviewed application software.

“The Supplementary Planes contain Emoji, historic scripts, less used symbols, less used Chinese ideographs and some more…”.

In view of the above comment, the ISO is expected to examine and rectify things, as noted below:

    (1) to deprecate UTF-16, so that all planes, beyond BMP, are restored and get rebirth.

    (2) to allot code points, beyond BMP, for the alphabets of Vowel-Consonants etc etc for all the world languages.

    (3) to introduce, gradually the UTF-10, being memory efficient in encoding, replacing UTF-8.

In the interest computing skill, differentiating / discriminating as atomic, non atomic, syllabary etc etc, is not all required, in as much as sufficient code points are available, in the planes created by IEEE.

The divide between Latin and non Latin alphabets will be got, automatically, eliminated, by the above process.

Let the MNCs cooperate to get total computing skill for all the languages of the world.

    அன்புடன் / Ever Yours
